Marine Carpentry & Joinery

Marine Carpentry & Joinery
Bespoke Yacht Carpentry & Interior Joinery
Velaris Marine provides professional marine carpentry and bespoke joinery for yachts and motor boats, supporting refit projects, interior upgrades and manufacturer programmes. From our base in Poole, Dorset we work across the South Coast, throughout the UK and internationally, completing onboard carpentry during maintenance periods, refurbishments and build schedules.
Marine joinery differs from domestic carpentry due to movement, moisture and access limitations within vessels. Work must integrate with existing structures, systems and finishes while maintaining strength and serviceability. Our role is to manufacture and install components that function correctly at sea as well as in harbour.

Helm Stations & Dash Modifications
Helm console alterations to accommodate updated electronics, navigation equipment and revised layouts while maintaining clean finish and accessibility.
Interior Alterations & Layout Changes
Modification of cabins, seating areas and internal divisions to modernise older vessels or improve onboard living space during renovation projects.
Trim & Finishing Joinery
Panels, edging, finishing pieces and detail work installed during final refit stages to achieve a cohesive interior finish alongside upholstery and lining installation.
Integration With Other Refit Works
Marine carpentry is often completed alongside:
-
teak decking replacement
-
electrical and plumbing installation
-
interior lining and upholstery
-
equipment upgrades
By carrying out these trades within one coordinated contractor, refit programmes can progress efficiently without waiting for separate specialists to attend at different times.
Local & Nationwide Projects
We regularly attend vessels within Poole Harbour, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Lymington and Southampton where upgrades are carried out alongside in marinas or during yard stays. Larger refurbishment and builder support projects are also undertaken across the UK and internationally when vessels require consistent trades throughout the project schedule.
Who We Work With
Our carpentry and joinery services support:
-
private yacht owners modernising interiors
-
surveyors and project managers overseeing refits
-
shipyards requiring additional trades
-
boat builders during completion and warranty stages
Work is planned to fit within existing maintenance schedules so vessels can progress through refit periods without unnecessary downtime.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you match existing wood finishes?
Yes. We aim to match existing materials and finishes where possible so new work integrates naturally with the vessel’s interior.
Do carpentry works require the boat to be lifted out?
Most interior carpentry can be completed afloat. Structural or external works may require yard access depending on location and scope.
Do you only carry out full refits?
No. We undertake both individual carpentry upgrades and larger renovation programmes depending on the owner’s requirements.
Can carpentry be done alongside other contractors?
Yes. We regularly coordinate with electricians, engineers, surveyors and yards during planned refit periods.
Do you travel for larger projects?
Yes. While much of our work is carried out along the South Coast, we attend projects across the UK and internationally when required.
